SOURCING

Where does Tiviski's milk come from?

Raw camel, cow and goat milk are purchased from hundreds of pastoralists, who milk by hand and have neither farms nor fences.

Over the years, realising that the regular income from milk improved their living standards and enabled them to feed their livestock during the harsh dry season, herders have become faithful suppliers. Nowadays thousands of camels, cows and goats are milked twice a day in the hinterland, and a network of 4WD, pick-up trucks and carts carry the milk on dirt tracks to the collecting centres in riverside towns.

This way herds can still move around, pastoralists preserve their traditional lifestyle in tents or huts, while hundreds of families now have a regular income from previously unused milk.
